I'll post our reviews after we both read the book. This is a cute book. I'm obviously not the intended audience but I liked it. I few of the rhymes fall a little flat but I'm sure a child would neither notice nor care. The stories are ones a child can relate to with enough content for some interest without so much there's time to get bored. I believe I may be called upon to do some sound effects when I read the second story about the toy fire truck.
Not that I mind, that's part of the fun.
My one and a half year old niece likes the book. She looked at it immediately and kissed Grady's picture. She also was taken with the image of Grady in a fireman's hat. She had her Dad read it to her and then shortly after wanted me to read it again. That's about as strong of an endorsement as you can get from that age group.
The only problem is she may be a little rough on the book since it's not heavy duty paper. I'll say a 4. My niece has had the book for a month now and still hasn't tired of it. She carries it around quite a bit and still wants it read to her. Grady seems to be a hit. Mostly because he's a cat but that doesn't really matter, the bottom line is she likes it. Dec 07, Laura rated it liked it Shelves: The story of Grady the Gray Cat who gets adopted from an animal shelter and goes to a home where there are two other cats. The rhyming story tells about how Grady spends his day, what he likes to play with and what he likes to eat.
Each page has a nice illustration highlighting what Grady is doing. I was hoping to read the book to my daughter, but I think she might be a little too young to sit through this right now. The story is told in rhymes which I know will attract her attention, but I think The story of Grady the Gray Cat who gets adopted from an animal shelter and goes to a home where there are two other cats.
The story is told in rhymes which I know will attract her attention, but I think there are too many verses on each page for her. Unfortunately, not quite two-year olds do not have a long attention span - she likes to help turn the pages and will often turn them before I am done reading. I do think she will like it when she gets older though. This story is also told in rhyme and gives you the further adventures of Grady. Read as part of the Goodreads First Reads program. Dec 01, Sara rated it really liked it Shelves: I really enjoyed reading both stories in this book with my daughter.
She just recently turned three and at first I thought there might be too many verses per page to hold her attention but she absolutely loved it. Her favorite story was the the side where Grady gets a toy firetruck. Very cute book and illustrations. I can tell we'll be reading this story several times. I really like him. Can we get another Grady story? Feb 22, Aileen Stewart rated it it was amazing Shelves: This adorable flip-it-over book offers two stories about Grady the gray cat.
Side one tells the story of Grady's adoption, and side two offers the story of Grady's new toy firetruck. Told in rhyme, this book is an excellent choice for a read-aloud to young children. Moore did an excellent job of making me wonder what will happen to Grady next! Nov 30, Richard rated it really liked it Shelves: This was a very cute book.
We preferred the first story Grady the Gray Cat gets adopted.
Many of Grady's traits reminded us of our own cats which was very nice. We loved the idea of flipping the book to get the second story. Nov 24, Angie Erickson marked it as to-read.
John Gray reviews a book on cats
Good book to read to a child! Apr 17, Read for your future! This is a cute book that i was gfted from the author. It is cute and funny and my four year old loved it. I loved that the book had two stories in one! Jan 28, Susan Moriarty rated it it was amazing. The book reminds me of the cats we have.
We love cats and enjoy watching how they act. Dec 01, Melissa rated it it was amazing. Well worth the read. Joyce Mitchell rated it it was amazing Jul 09, Fritz buys a blimp to film weather videos. Pumpkin publishes a "How to be Unmannerly" website. But the young cats face many challenges along the way, keeping young readers in suspense. The author wants kids to know that they can start businesses. As a child growing up on a Midwestern farm, Curtis began her first business adventure at the age of five when her father gave her a beef calf to raise. From Richard Branson to Tony Hsieh, many of the most successful entrepreneurs started a business before they became adults.
The catizins are cute and clever. A clever collection of work. Scarlett Jensen 28 July Curtis is another great installment in the Laughing Thunder series for kids. In this adventure, the cats must come together in order to stop the evil deeds being done by the rival group known as the Nasty Gray. Each of our hero cats has his or her own way of defending themselves. But, only together are they able to stop the assault that is coming their way.
As with the other books in the series I have read, I like the lessons that are being taught throughout the narrative. They are not the basic lessons that happen in all stories for young children, but universal lessons that apply to all people: These are the big picture ideas that are coming out in this great little story.
I read this once by myself and them I read it with my 6 year old daughter. She loved the story. Immediately she wanted to read more stories about these characters and see what other adventures they get up to. She liked the way each cat was different, but she really liked that they were all friends and worked together so well, just like her and her friends.
This is another book that I think would do well in school libraries or in the classroom libraries of elementary teachers' classrooms. This book is everything, it is so good I've read it thrice already with my daughter. From the first chapter on to the next, the pace and tempo with which the words conveyed the story was perfect.
It's a great way to not only spend quality time with my daughter but also learn a few lessons along the way, and mind you these are the kind of lessons that's hard to forget because of the ease with which they are learnt, they really sink in. This is a story about four cats known as the cats of laughing thunder, they came together to get prepared for a fight with Nasty gray and it's members.
Each of the cats have their own plan and weapon to fight but still yet they combine forces together teaching comradery and friendship with like minded people.
The Joe Grey Cat Mystery Series by Shirley Rousseau Murphy
S Curtis did a really fantastic job on this book, the writing is funny, interesting and insightful, no reader wouldn't be charmed. An all round interesting and fun book of high literary quality which I strongly recommend. These books are well written and entertaining for both boys and girls. The young cats are smart, industrious and independent - great attributes for kids to aspire to.
This book contains lots of action and ingenuity on the part of the characters. The only thing that I found strange was that they built a trebuchet rather than a catapult - you'd think since everything else is based on them being cats catizens, etc.
Maybe the author thought kids would find it fun to look up and learn to say trebuchet? The artwork in the book is also cute and humorous and the pace of this story is quick and to the point. This series is packed full of fun but also contains subtle messages intended to point kids in the right direction, which parents will love. See all 14 reviews.
